Ford Hits Automotive Safety Milestone

Already, the motoring industry is abuzz with the confirmation from a senior Ford executive that the all new FG Ford Falcon has received the title of being a five star safety performer. This confirmed earlier speculation that it was expected to be the first Australian produced vehicle to gain such a score from the Australian New Car Assessment Program.

The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) subjects all new vehicles to a grueling crash test that involves a 64km/h frontal offset and a 50km/h side impact. However, to gain the much sought after five star safety rating, an additional side impact pole test must be passed. This test is available to manufacturers whose models are fitted with side airbags and have performed very well in the side impact testing.

Testing of the FG Falcon took place in the U.S and Sweden, as well as here in Australia.
It was put through a record 5000 simulated crashes, with 90 instrumented prototypes being physically crashed.

With Ford Australia president Bill Osborne confirming his initial expectations concerning the FG Falcon’s monumental achievement, it is surely going to be a historic year for the company.

The brand new Ford Falcon is ready to go on sale May 2008.
